Summary of Facts:
This wrongful death action was brought when Jeffrey Huske, a 57-year-old medical patient, died from ischemic necrosis of the small bowel after he reported to the emergency room with severe abdominal pain and defendant Brenda Satchie, M.D., insured by defendant Continental Casualty Company, failed to immediately operate on his strangulated bowel and instead recommended the placement of an NG tube and observation. The plaintiff estate contended that defendant Satchie failed to personally examine the decedent, failed to consult with the radiologists who had reported bowel obstructions, failed to access the decedent's chart, and failed to perform an emergency laparotomy. The defendants denied negligence.
